Setting up (UK)

Enter your postcode. Your council is worked out from it automatically — you never pick it yourself.

What happens next depends on your council:

• Most councils — a UPRN box appears. That's the unique number for your property; look it up free at findmyaddress.co.uk (enter your postcode, pick your address, copy the 10–12 digit number).
• Some councils — an address dropdown appears instead, straight from the council's own list. Pick your address and you're done; no UPRN to look up.
• A few — just a house number or name.

Whichever you get, use Check my bin day before saving. It fetches your real collections there and then, so you know it works before it reaches your device.

Display style

• Big next collection — the next bins large, with what's coming after
• Month view — six weeks in a grid, so you can see the pattern your council collects on
• Next collection, plus what's coming — the two together, side by side on a wide screen and stacked on a tall one

Change it any time from the plugin's settings; the display updates on its next refresh.

Every style fits itself to the screen it lands on — original TRMNL or TRMNL X, landscape or portrait, whole screen or one slot of a mashup. Nothing to set.

Outside the UK

Change the Country field at the top — the UK fields disappear and a calendar link box takes their place. Hundreds of waste services publish one: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Italy, Poland, the Nordics, Australia, New Zealand, the US and Canada.

The same box appears for a UK postcode whose council doesn't publish a lookup we can read — leave Country set to United Kingdom in that case.

Where to find it

• On your provider's bin-day page, look for “subscribe to calendar”, “iCal”, “ICS” or a calendar icon
• webcal:// links work — paste them as-is
• If the link contains a year, replace it with {%Y} so it keeps working next year

Bin names are recognised in English, German, Dutch, French, Italian, Spanish, Polish, Czech and the Nordic languages, so each type still gets the right icon.

Troubleshooting

“No direct source for your council”

Your council is recognised, but its site doesn't offer a bin-day lookup we can read. See supported councils. If your council publishes an ICS/iCal calendar link, paste that on the setup screen — it works the same way.

“No collections found”

Usually a UPRN that belongs to a different property — re-check it on findmyaddress.co.uk. If your council shows an address dropdown instead, pick your address again from it; councils occasionally re-issue the ids behind those entries.

Dates look out of date

Schedules are cached for about 6 hours to be kind to council servers. If a council is temporarily unreachable the last known schedule is shown and marked cached.

Nothing appears at all

Check the Country field matches how you filled the rest in. United Kingdom expects a postcode plus whatever your council asks for — a UPRN, an address from the dropdown, or a house number. Any other country expects a calendar link.

Settings look empty

Opening settings should show your saved postcode and address. If it doesn't, reinstall the plugin — the link between your device and your saved details is made during installation.

Privacy

No account, no password, no personal data. Your postcode and UPRN are used only to ask your council for collection dates, and the resulting schedule is cached briefly so we don't hammer their servers. Nothing is sold, shared or used for tracking. Uninstalling removes what little is stored.
